These comics have also become a little more personal since becoming a dad. My son has grown up around the characters we perform at our events, and he already has his favourites. Whenever he sees the Neon Cowboys, he points straight to Orange and says “Daddy!” because he knows that’s the character Dad plays. He loves Rexi too, so the idea of creating stories featuring these characters that he can enjoy now—and eventually learn to read himself—means a lot to me.

That idea of leaving stories behind for him has an even deeper meaning in our family. Before my dad passed away, he and I created a children’s book together. I wrote the story and he illustrated it, and it became the last project we ever worked on together. The book follows the strange and wonderful things Dad does for a living as an entertainer, but its real purpose was to leave my son something created by his dad and granddad together—something he could always have to remember him by.
